The MLQ
"Lomax is the rare drummer who leaves you wanting more, leading his bandmates through a strikingly terse, brilliantly counterintuitive and ultimately joyous series of explorations."- Lucid Culture
"The task they perform is above reproach, burning the energy jazz piece, each player standing his ground to deliver an unflinching tour de force." - All About Jazz
"A satisfying and electrifying outing."- Jazz Chicago
Formed in 2001, this quartet embodies the fire and passion of John Coltranes' great Classic Quartet of the mid 1960s, while also presenting a modern sensibility that allows the ensemble to generate a sound for the times. The MLQ performs a variety of original compositions, Negro Spirituals, and select compositions by Ellington, Monk, Mingus, Coltrane, and other such luminaries of Black Art Music.
